Double-Spaced: My Five Seconds of Fame

If you haven’t already heard I am now also blogging every Tuesday over on the newly-launched, under the title Double-Spaced.

Today’s post is about the craziness that was the month of February – The Sunday Times, Marian Finucane, BBC Radio Ulster – and what I learned about getting publicity for your self-published book. Spoiler alert: YOU need to be the story, not your book.

“February was a crazy month for me because eleven months after I self-published my travel memoir, Mousetrapped: A Year and A Bit in Orlando, Florida, me self-publishing became a newsworthy story. Suddenly I was in the paper and on the radio, talking about a book I’d sent out in the world nearly a whole year before, all the while trying to act cool and nonchalant about my sudden five seconds of fame, but inside wondering what the hell just happened? What did happen?”
