If you haven’t already heard I am now also blogging every Tuesday over on Writing.ie, under the title Double-Spaced.
Today’s post is a blow-by-blow account of my average writing day which, worryingly, doesn’t seem to involve much writing…
“8.46am: Coffee preparation. Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf House Blend in a one cup filter belgique.
8.57am: Morning rounds. Yahoo mail, Gmail account, other Gmail account, Facebook, Twitter, WordPress, Twitter again, Yahoo mail again, Novel Rank, Amazon DTP, Perez Hilton, TMZ, Google News, Twitter, repeat as required.
9.45am: Get dressed.
10.10am: Coffee preparation. Decide to open the Dunkin Donuts House Blend and make it in the french press as this will waste more time.
10.04am: Breakfast.
10.35am: I’ll just check Twitter…”

All too familiar! Coffee is definitely a better time sink than tea. I’m always inspired by R. L. Stein, who apparently (according to what my 10-year old tells me) writes 15 pages a day (probably about 5000 words). At best, including research and the side-tracking that it involves, I probably do between zero and 2000. Anyone else care to chip in with their numbers?- I’d be interested to know if there is a difference between fiction and nonfiction.
